Text description provided by the architects. The participatory design of a multipurpose community building for the development of settlements in extreme poverty, is addressed from the perspective of solving a problem that affects not only a person or family, but a group of people. Thus, the idea seeks to vindicate human joint action, leaving aside the ego, or individual interests, to be able to address public interest as a priority.
In this type of urban sites, the relationship with the social, economic and governmental context is of marginalization and exclusion, in most cases, these are occupied lands, in others they are granted, but always virgin land, without any basic services, this determined that the conquest of the urban development of the site should begin with their initiative.
One of the biggest difficulties is the lack of social cohesion, the lack of permanence is large, due to multiple factors, such as economic need, lack of response to basic needs, social expulsion, manipulation, etc.
Such projects are of vital importance, seeking to reverse the social, economic, urban and political instability, from the building and organized care of community needs, creating a platform built to articulate, from the personal to the institutional scale, encouraging the formation and proper use of institutions, as the main representatives of the people in the community, and likewise, of needs and solutions.
These built platforms (buildings) are intended to contain spaces that respond directly to the basic needs (educational, professional, health, safety, shelter, recreation, etc.) of the community, germinating hope and offering development tools, and thus to become icons that create a community identity, promoting the development of context, by working together to build this building, learning new techniques of self construction that can be used for their family-individual situations.
From the collective to the individual, not from the individual to the collective.
The social projection of this research includes the expansion of the network of centers for community development (CDC) seeking to generate organizational presence and progress in the most vulnerable places, to also strengthen the work of the municipalities as public administrators, which due to a lack of organization, are far from sites with these characteristics.
